The previous two tracks I made, which were somehow snagged by Funkfield Recordings (Turkey), kinda left me a bit disappointed and frustrated. The problem with writing, producing, and mastering your own work is that sometimes the finished product is not what you had envisioned initially. Don’t get me wrong, its not that those two tracks sucked, its just not what I really wanted.
Anyway, the last month was spent analyzing and dissecting numerous recordings and personal tendencies in an attempt to address all the problems I had noticed with my methods. Most of these shelved ideas that I’ve started on in the past were all put to rest, as I wanted to start over fresh. This is the first of 3-6 new ideas that I’ve been polishing over the past month. This is clearly the most “accessible” and “cheery” track, and the ideal starting point for those who don’t know what type of music I like to play. Is it jackin’ or breakin’ ? hmmm… it’s house - with everything personally sampled and created without any use of those friggin’ annoying sample packs (c’mon people the software makes it easy already, work your ass off in making your own loops rather than relying on someone to do them for you) But what’s more important, I think, is that its a step forward compared to the last two tracks I made, and I’m quite happy with the results. There is still a lot to learn and improve on, so it’s back to work for me…

Terno Halloween Party at TIME
My last memory of dressing up for Halloween was at a my sister-in-law’s family’s compound. My 9-year old self arrived as witch and won 3rd place for “cutest”. They even gave me a trophy. From then on, I was skeptical about any award and never dressed up for Halloween. I knew how politics worked with the act of exchanging candies.
For the Terno Halloween party at TIME, I had little time to even think of a costume since it was a packed week full of events and I arrived at this party from the MTV Exit concert. I wish going to TIME bought me more time in reality. Nevertheless, time flies when you’re having fun!
Francis and I bought those devil horns being sold for 50 bucks on the street. Yes I know, how boring, haha!
That’s me and Lia with her authentic Hogwarts robe.
Jay Server as Boba Fett
We should get the ‘worst costume’ award, but I really like what Armi did….

Mixset: From Cubs to Tigers - Revisiting Techno »
Was asked the other day if I wanted to play alongside a real Techno DJ from Detroit on the 1st of October. Obviously that was a no-brainer (not only because I havent played a techno set in years and wanted to see if I could still do it; or more importantly because, dude, a real detroit dj is coming down to play the sounds THEY innovated) — but what got me thinking was basically the perception of Manila’s majority re: real techno. That was the real motivating force behind the decision to play since I personally feel that people in Manila have forgotten, or worse, still don’t know what real techno is… and that this is a great opportunity to remind them that we once had this kind of music before a whole bunch of hacks decided they were experts in music and wanted to dj as well.
I dont know about you, but this is my definition of minimal, driving, dirty, and funky techno. Don’t worry, this doesn’t contain any of that cute bullshit stuff they call techno or minimal tech these days.

A beautiful cover of an AR Kane original. Tahiti 80 will be coming to Manila to up the ante as Terno Recordings celebrates 10 years!
Promo Tune: Funkin' Around - Cyril Y. »
I usually try to come up with a track here and there to somehow promote our Deep Fried events. With DF just a few days away, here’s the result of me messing around in my home studio. This is track 1 of 3, and the first demo using my new monitors. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it. If you have time, come over to Deep Fried at Route 196 this Saturday. We’ll try to get you to dance to our brand of music ;)

A couple of weeks late, but just the same, this was my pick from episode 16 of SND.fm’s Sound Affects.
